Good question. I enjoy making games and I want as many people as possible to
play them. That's why I host them on my web server and allow people to play
them online for free.
With Broomsticks, at first I only had one version (what is now the demo
version). I could have kept it that way. However, I decided to try something
new. I made a full version that has a bunch of extra features, sounds, and
documentation. There are two reasons why I sell the full version:
1) I run my own web server and serve up a bunch of things. I have to keep
my online games very small so that I don't swamp my server. All of the extra
features, utilities, and documentation make the full version 30 times bigger
than the demo version. The last two months I have had over 100,000 downloads
of my demo version (your browser downloads it before you play). If everybody
could download my full version that would be too much bandwith.
2) The full version took me a good amount of time to make and so I think it is
worth something. People who have the full version agree with me. :-) I'm not
making lots of money off of this, but it is nice to get something. :-)
